"Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him."
As Parents we do all we can to care for our children. We love them, provide for them, educate them, care for their physical health and nurture their spiritual growth. Unfortunately we are living in a time when children's mental health issues are real and common. They are also treatable. One in five children has a diagnosable mental health problem; sadly two-thirds of them will not get the help they need. When children do not receive the help that is needed they may experience problem in school, can get in trouble with the law, can experience issues with bullying and suicide. If left untreated our children with mental health issues become adults with mental health issues.
Mental Health Americal has a list of signs that may indicate a need for professional help:
*Decline in school performance
*Poor grades despite strong efforts
*Constant worry or anxiety
*Repeated refusal to go to school or to take part in normal activities
*Hyperactivity or fidgeting
*Persistent disobedience or aggression
*Frequent temper tantrums
*Depression, sadness or irritability
Early detection and treatment can lead to the whole health of our children. Talk to your child's health care provider about any concerns you have and to have the appropriate youth screening performed.
